Birth Art

I've been doing art ever since I can remember... all I drew were horses when I was a kid. I diligently read Walter Farley's How to Draw books and eventually some of it sunk in. I took a couple of art classes in high school, but was not interested in the projects. I learned more from the two classes I took in community college... but then I started having kids and I didn't have time.
My dear husband bought me an acrylic painting kit for my birthday in 2005 and I began again. While I do animals and flowers as well, birth art and babies are my real passion. Painting a ripe pregnant belly or a cherubic nursing baby fills my heart.
I found myself making ACEO (art cards editions originals) cards and sold a few on eBay. Some I just had to keep for myself. I entered the art show at the county fair once and came in second.
In 2009, I sent a few pieces to a showing of childbirth art back east. It was my first public art show. I wish I could have been there in person! Unfortunately, the show was not well attended. They hope to do it again next year with better results.
I'm currently working on two pieces that will be permanent exhibits in a traveling art show with a cesarean theme.
Some of my art is shown here. Please respect my copyright. I'm happy to share them for publication if you ask. So far they have been featured in the CAPPA Quarterly newsletter and a few other places.
I love to draw and paint. I wish I could make a living at it, but art is fickle. I can't produce it unless the muse is with me. Instead, I spend my days writing and editing, another passion of mine.
I do take the time to produce my art when I feel that familiar niggling in my mind. An idea has presented itself. It may take weeks to bring to fruition, but in the meantime, I work on it in my mind.
I hope you enjoy looking at my birth art. Some pieces are available for sale; some are not. I can also do some commissions.
